The Annual Friend & Leader Award Dinner salutes individuals whose work contributes to progress in awareness, health promotion, prevention, and effective treatment for children and adults affected by mental health challenges throughout Massachusetts.
There could be no more important time to reaffirm our commitment to promote mental health and end disparities in access to care. Massachusetts Association for Mental Health (MAMH) looks forward to holding this event this year (with in-person and virtual options available for attendees) to celebrate the leadership in Massachusetts from individuals, communities, providers, and policy leaders.
Please join us for MAMH's 108th Annual Friend and Leader Award Dinner to be held on Wednesday, October 13 at 6PM at the Seaport Hotel in Boston. In this important year for mental health and well being, please consider becoming a sponsor or purchasing a ticket to support our critical work.
As we monitor COVID-19 and the Delta variant, we understand that some individuals may prefer to attend virtually. Our event will be fully hybrid this year, providing virtual attendees the opportunity to view our award program in real time starting at 8PM. A virtual welcome from MAMH President and CEO Danna Mauch and Board Chair Ambassador Barry White begins at 7:45PM.
MAMH has been the leader from the start in providing emerging information and data-based forecasting on the mental health impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. With your support, we are stronger as a community in standing together to promote the mental health and well being of residents of the Commonwealth.
The advocacy and education efforts of MAMH are unparalleled. To combat effects of the pandemic, MAMH redoubled its public awareness efforts; led the fight for better access to care and insurance parity advocacy; created new information hubs on the Network of Care Massachusetts services directory to focus on COVID-19 resources and connecting people to culturally responsive services; and more. This fall, we're focused on the back-to-school mental health transition for K-12 students and the behavioral health care needs of older adults.
If you are fully vaccinated, please join us in-person to celebrate our honorees at the Friend & Leader Award Dinner. Following both CDC guidelines and Boston's mask mandate (in effect as of Friday, August 27, 2021 at 8 a.m.), MAMH and the Seaport Hotel ask all guests attending the event to wear a mask in all indoor public settings (except when actively eating and/or drinking). If you are unvaccinated or are not feeling well, we encourage you to enjoy the event virtually to protect the well being and safety of others. We will continue to monitor state and local guidelines as they relate to events and gatherings and make the necessary decisions to keep attendees safe.

MAMH analyzed the Massachusetts State Budget for fiscal year 2022 and its impact on people with behavioral health conditions and their families.
We are pleased to report that the FY22 State Budget is exceptionally strong for behavioral health.
Our legislative agenda supports three main goals: expanding access, decriminalizing mental health, and promoting wellness.
MAMH staff and partners work closely with legislators on bills to support each of these priorities.
A 2016 Boston Globe investigation reported that nearly half of people shot and killed by police in MA have a mental health condition.
An MAMH issue brief shows reform is needed to create an effective behavioral health response system.
